A month before the war began, tragedy befell Vanya's mother, Olga, born in 1984. During the occupation of Shibene village Vanya's father Viktor Rolenko was shot in the stomach. The boy was left in the care of his 70-year-old grandmother and grandfather, and they took custody of him.

The boy is an orphan and needs support and rehabilitation after difficult events and the loss of his parents. Now Vanya is preparing to enrol in the Ivan Bogun Military School.
